Dancing with the Stars is an American dance competition television series that premiered on June 1, 2005, on ABC. It is the U.S. version of the U.K. series Strictly Come Dancing. The show is hosted by Tom Bergeron, alongside Erin Andrews. Samantha Harris co-hosted seasons two through nine. There are typically two seasons per year.

The format of the show consists of a celebrity paired with a professional dancer. Each couple performs predetermined dances and competes against the others for judges' points and audience votes. The couple receiving the lowest combined total of judges' points and audience votes is eliminated each week until only the champion dance pair remains. The show has featured both celebrities and dancers with Birmingham area connections.

Dance instructor Fabian Sanchez joined the cast of the show for season 6 in 2008. He was partnered with deaf actress Marlee Matlin. The couple was the fifth one eliminated. Sanchez did not return to the show.
