Douglass McConnell was the co-founder of McConnell Sales and Engineering Corporation and builder of the Homewood Christmas Star.

McConnell started McConnell Sales in 1931 in partnership with his brother, Leslie F. McConnell. In the 1940s or early 1950s, he created the Christmas Star for Homewood's Christmas celebration.

McConnell had at least one son, Art.
