Dwayne A. Murray (born in Birmingham) served as chief of the Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service from 2002 to January 9, 2007.

Murray earned a bachelor of science in business administration from Stillman College in 1975 and an associate degree in applied science/fire science from Jefferson State Community College. He attended the masters of public administration program at UAB and has also studied at Birmingham-Southern College. Murray also completed five years of management studies at Florida A&M University's Executive Development Institute.

Murray rose through the ranks of the Birmingham fire department and was promoted to chief by Mayor Bernard Kincaid, succeeding Oscar Brennan. In 2005 the International Association of Black Firefighters honored him with the Metro Fire Chief Award. (Retired chief Raymond Brooks was given the Metro Black Chief Officer Lifetime Achievement Award at the same ceremony.)

He resigned in January 2007 in order to take over the fire department at Daytona Beach, Florida.
