Five Mile Creek Greenway in Gardendale

The Five Mile Creek Greenway in Gardendale is a two mile segment of the Five Mile Creek Greenway. The segment is part of 16.5-mile trail system that follows the path of the abandoned Cane Creek Branch rail corridor that winds its way through northern and western Jefferson County. It opened in June 2019.

The trail is paved with crushed limestone from Jew Hollow Road to Shady Grove Road, connecting the path to the greenway segment in Fultondale’s Black Creek Park. It will eventually connect to the greenway segment in Brookside. Vulcan Materials Company donated the first 700 tons of gravel for the trail and provided a discount on the additional gravel needed to surface the trail.

A section of the trail connects to the Gardendale Urban Trail System in the Clemons Recreational Complex.
