George James, Jr (born c. 1927 - died September 15, 2008) was the head football coach for the Alabama State University Hornets from 1976 to 1983. During that period he compiled a 41-39-3 record, including a 7-1 record against Tuskegee University and a number of signature upsets, for which he earned the nickname "The Houdini of Football".

James resided in Montgomery. He was survived by his wife, Lois, and three children. Funeral services were held at the Old Ship AME Zion Church in Montgomery.
