Howell Hubert Vines (born November 22, 1899 in Jefferson County; died May 30, 1981) was a novelist and short story writer. He was the son of James Lawrence and Mary Fannie Vines of Jefferson County and earned his bachelor of arts from the University of Alabama. He then went on to get his master's degree from Harvard University.
On June 12, 1927 Vines married Alma Huey in Bessemer. Alma was a member of the family that gave Hueytown its name.
In addition to publishing two semi-autobiographical novels and several stories, Vines taught English at Rice Institute in Houston, Texas and at the University of Richmond, Virginia and Shorter College in Rome, Georgia.
Vines is buried in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Hueytown.
