The Joe Wheeler Cafe or Joe Wheeler Restaurant was a restaurant located in the Buyck-Thomas Building at 11 20th Street North, opposite the Metropolitan Hotel in the 1900s to 1920s.
It was named in honor of Joseph Wheeler, a cavalry veteran of the Civil War who represented the 8th Congressional District of Alabama in the United States House of Representatives and served as a general in the Spanish-American War.
Peter Johnson ran the business in 1904. He advertised that the restaurant was "open day and night" and featured oysters, game and other dishes in season, with a specialty in preparing short orders.
Louis Johnson was the proprietor in 1910.
