Kenneth Paschal

Kenneth Paschal is the Representative for District 73 in the Alabama House of Representatives.

Paschal grew up in Eclectic, Elmore County. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1985 and retired as a First Sergeant in 2006.

Paschal served as executive director of the Huntsville-based Alabama Family Rights Association, and as commander of American Legion Post 555 in Pelham. He also serves on the Shelby County Republican Executive Committee.

Paschal was a candidate in the 2021 Shelby County special election to fill the vacant seat left by Matt Fridy's election to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals. He finished second of five candidates in the March 30 Republican primary and narrowly edged out Leigh Hulsey in the Republican primary run-off on April 27. He then soundly defeated Sheridan Black in the July 13 general election. Paschal was sworn into office the following day.

In the 2023 Alabama legislative session Paschal introduced "House Bill 6", which said that, "The government may not burden the fundamental right of a parent to direct the upbringing, education, care, and custody of his or her child unless the government demonstrates that the application of the burden is narrowly tailored to a compelling state interest and the government uses the least restrictive means possible to further that interest." In debate, legislators questioned the vagueness of the language and its purpose. Paschal defended the bill by saying that it had been written with help from the Scottsdale, Arizona-based Alliance Defending Freedom and saying that, "...[W]e have God, parents and the government, and you have to put them in order." The proposal was carried over to the call of the chair.
