This is a List of Birmingham Mutual Aid and Liberation Organizations, including active organizations which promote the voluntary reciprocal exchange of resources and services for mutual benefit in practical and/or political contexts. Many of these projects aim to liberate individuals, communities and ecosystems from systematic oppression.

BFT Local 2115 is the Birmingham branch of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) . They are a union of educators and support personnel whose missions are to preserve and protect the rights of its membership; to organize, serve and empower its membership for the purpose of addressing educational issues that promote and support quality education for all students, and with dignity and fair compensation for those who provide it. Alabama Interfaith Power and Light (AIPL)’s goal is to engage all congregations of all faiths in the state of Alabama in the joint fight against the Climate Crisis and to be active voices in the fight for environmental justice. Be a Blessing Birmingham (BABB) is a Birmingham-based nonprofit organization created to bring awareness to and garner community support to help make things better for the large homeless population. The Birmingham Free Store, located at 2030 Bessemer Road, is a mutual aid community-led project that focuses on anticapitalist ideas. Everything available at the “store” is free, and products available range from produce and food, to clothing, to contraceptive needs. Birmingham Free Store Website
Birmingham Mutual Aid is network of individuals in the greater-Birmingham area who practice a variety of mutual aid acts. These acts are centered around community-building and meeting peoples’ unmet needs, including food box distribution, clothing distribution, errand-running, healthcare and healing. BHMMA Website

The Black Lives Matter Birmingham chapter is a branch of the national Black Lives Matter movement. It is an organization intended to build connections between Black people and our allies to fight anti-Black racism, to spark dialogue among Black people, and to facilitate the types of connections necessary to encourage social action and engagement. Southerners on New Ground (SONG) is an organization in the Southern United States with a chapter in Birmingham. SONG is a home for LGBTQ liberation across all lines of race, class, abilities, age, culture, gender, and sexuality in the South. We build, sustain, and connect a southern regional base of LBGTQ people in order to transform the region through strategic projects and campaigns developed in response to the current conditions in our communities.
