Maxam was a national discount retail chain from Roslindale, Massachusetts which opened locations at the Skyland Shopping Center in Tuscaloosa on November 7, 1962 and at 800 Green Springs Highway in Homewood on April 18, 1963. Within a few years the Homewood store became a K-Mart.
