Red Mountain Bank was founded in Hoover in June, 2004, by Mike Washburn and a group of investors and community leaders. Red Mountain Bank's first office was opened just off US Highway 280 in the Inverness area of Hoover at 5 Inverness Center Parkway. In Birmingham, Red Mountain has a second office in the English Village area of Mountain Brook, at 1906 Cahaba Road, and a branch in Brentwood, Tennessee. It also plans on expanding into other areas, including Fairhope.

The design of Red Mountain Bank's English Village office, created by GA Architecture Studio, won a 2008 Merit Award for Commercial Architecture from AIA Birmingham.
