He then joined the Veterans Integrated Service Network 7 (the VA Southeast Network), working as chief of mental health at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center Columbia, South Carolina and as deputy chief of staff for the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia in July [[2014]]. Oladipo Ayodeji "Ladi" Kukoyi (born in Lagos, Nigeria) is the executive director of Birmingham VA Health Care System (BVAHCS) and a clinical professor at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry and Department of Family and Community Medicine.

Kukoyi began his training at the University of Lagos College of Medicine in Nigeria, earning a masters in clinical investigation with research in the neuropsychiatry of epilepsy. He came to Birmingham in 1995 to complete his M.D. with a specialty in family medicine and psychiatry. He graduated from the School of Medicine in 1999 and went on to complete a residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Ames, Iowa in 2004.
