Renew Birmingham is a initiative to construct 200 new 2- and 3-bedroom homes on vacant property in Titusville and Collegeville. The initiative is a partnership with the City of Birmingham, which donated the property and agreed to a $25,000-per-house subsidy, and New Start Neighborhood Revitalization, a limited liability corporation headed by Cary Neil which will act as developer.
The homes are planned to sell for an average of $75,000. The property donation was approved by the Birmingham City Council on May 12, 2009.
The first phase of construction is scheduled in the Titusville community on a parcel on Goldwire Avenue beginning June 1.
