Roderick Hampton Scott (born November 9, 1960) is a professor of economics at Miles College and a former member of the Alabama State House of Representatives, representing District 55 from 2006 to 2022.
Scott, the son of Percy and Carstella Scott, graduated from Fairfield High School and went on to earn a bachelor's in economics at Yale University and a master's of business administration from Dartmouth College's Tuck School of Business.
Scott defeated two-term incumbent Eric Major in the 2006 Democratic primary and was unopposed in the general election. He was re-elected in 2010, 2014 and 2018.
In the 2020 primary, Scott ran for Jefferson County Treasurer. He advanced to a primary runoff with Eyrika Parker, but lost the race.
In 2022, Scott faced four challengers in the Democratic primary. He lost a close runoff to Fred Plump who went on to take the seat unopposed.
