Ron McGuffie (born August 10, 1949 in Bessemer) is a dispatcher for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and was the Democratic candidate for Sheriff in the 2006 general election.
McGuffie graduated McAdory High School in 1967 and joined the Midfield Police Department three years later. He served two tours with a U.S. Marine Corps sniper unit in the Vietnam War. He moved onto the Sheriff's Department in 1973 and worked through the ranks until he was injured in a vehicle accident in 1989.
He worked for a while after that as a private investigator for a law firm and doing lawn work for a property investment company. He returned to the department as a dispatcher in 1996 and also teaches deputies in the Sheriff's academy. He made an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic nomination for Sheriff in 2002, losing to former Birmingham Police Chief Johnnie Johnson.
McGuffie, who now lives in Trussville, took a leave of absence beginning May 1, 2006 to campaign full time for the Sheriff's seat. In the 2006 primary, he faced Ron Blankenship, C. D. Horton and Hank McWhorter. He defeated Blankenship in the runoff by a margin of 2-1, but lost to incumbent Mike Hale in the general election.
