• August 22: Willie Bell Anderson died from a brain hemorrhage at a hospital after being found bruised and unconscious in her Southside apartment. Her death was initially attributed to an accidental slip and fall. After an autopsy and testimony from people who knew the couple, her husband, Jack Anderson, was arrested and charged with her murder. He was convicted on a charge of manslaughter. (report)
