2021 State of the City address
Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin's 2021 State of the Community address was delivered via a pre-recorded Facebook video on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at the culmination of his third year in office.
In the speech, Woodfin expressed his belief that the city was pulling together in the face of the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic and the 2020 George Floyd protests. He repeated his primary focus on neighborhood revitalization and discussed the potential to begin filling vacant lots with new housing. He acknowledged the high rate of homicide and predicted that implementing the recommendations of the Birmingham Public Safety Task Force would give residents more confidence in working with police to address gun violence.
Woodfin also expressed hope that the Biden administration would restore badly-needed federal support for cities and said that Birmingham would work closely with UAB to distribute COVID vaccines as efficiently as possible.
WVTM-TV news anchor Eunice Elliott appeared in the video after the speech to pose questions for the mayor.
