Avanti Polar Lipids, Inc. is a company that develops, manufactures, markets and distributes compounds used in pharmaceutical research and drug delivery. It was founded in 1967 by Walt Shaw and is located at 700 Industrial Park Drive in Alabaster. The company's best-known achievement is the development of "Exosurf", a surfactant used in the treatment of infant respiratory distress syndrome, common in premature births.

The company constructed a new 14,000 square-foot office for its analytical services division in 2011. In 2020 Avanti was acquired by Croda International of Snaith, United Kingdom.

In 2021 Avanti undertook a $26 million expansion of its Alabaster facility.
