David Crenshaw Jr

David Crenshaw Jr (born August 9, 1926; died April 4, 2011) was a World War II veteran, U. S. Steel worker, entrepreneur and civic activist.

Crenshaw enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served aboard the USS Dixie, USS Whitney, and USS APL-24, winning Victory and Asiatic Pacific ribbons before his discharge in 1943. He continued to serve in the U. S. Naval Reserve until January 1953.

Crenshaw spent 39 years at U. S. Steel's Ensley Works and was a member of the Plant Union Committee. He was also an entrepreneur, opening and operating David's Delicatessen in Pratt City and the Electro Print copy shop at Five Points West.

Crenshaw was president of the Pratt City Civic League when the Howze-Sanford Recreation Center was built in 1969. He was also an active member of the Saint James AME Church and the American Legion Post 318.

Crenshaw died in 2011. He was survived by his wife, Susie; three children; and two grandchildren. He is buried at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
