The GeoDome was a 46-seat educational theater in the former Meyer Planetarium building at Birmingham-Southern College. It was developed by the Southern Environmental Center as a way to showcase Alabama's geographic and biological riches.
The exterior of the building was re-landscaped with stormwater mitigation terraces and the roof enhanced with plantings. A future phase of the project will convert the former planetarium's lower-level classroom into a virtual reality laboratory. The $1 million renovation was expected to be completed in 2018. A feature video presentation was developed for the GeoDome by biologist Scot Duncan.
Birmingham-Southern's campus closed in 2024.
