Irondale Occupational Tax
The Irondale Occupational Tax is a 1.0% tax on wages for all workers in the city of Irondale, passed by a 3-0 vote of the Irondale City Council on May 29, 2018. The vote followed an unsuccessful April 10 referendum to raise property taxes. Both measures were proposed in order to meet a shortfall in the city's budget, largely caused by the closure of the Sam's Club warehouse store, which had alone accounted for about $1.4 million in annual sales tax revenues, property taxes and business license fees.
