The Mars Petcare (formerly Doane Pet Care) plant was a manufacturer of dry pet food located in a 115,000 square foot facility on a 32-acre site at 1904 16th Street North in Fountain Heights. The plant opened in 1954 and was operated by Doane Pet Care Company of Brentwood, Tennessee.

Doane was bought out by the Virginia-based Mars Petcare U.S. (a division of the global Mars brand) in 2006. Mars consolidated 29 American plants and moved its national headquarters to Tennessee. The Birmingham plant is one of five that Mars closed in 2008.

In 2010 Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway purchased the former plant, which adjoins its BNSF Birmingham Intermodal Facility.

Brands

The Birmingham plant manufactured "Ol' Roy" brand dry dog food.
