Rock Mountain Lakes Baptist Church
On April 16, 1978, the home of Carl and Annelle Bishop of Rock Mountain Lakes was the site of the first worship service of Rock Mountain Lakes Baptist Mission. The message was presented by Dr John Smith. Following that service an offer was extended to and accepted by Herbert Thrasher to become mission pastor and to assist in the organization of a community church.
On August 26, 1979, ground was broken for Rock Mountain Lakes Baptist Mission at 904 Colmart Drive (now Rock Mountain Lakes Road). On December 30, 1979, the completed basement was the site of the first worship service.
In August 1980 Frank Nelson became the first music and youth director.
On April 18, 1984, Thrasher met with church leaders and told them that he was resigning because the church needed a full-time pastor. On August 12, 1984, the church accepted Derek Gentile as its pastor.
