Stacy Williams Co.
The Stacy Williams Co. is a wholesale distributor of snack foods, beverages and other products to institutional clients, vending machine operators and other wholesalers in six Southern states.
The company was founded in 1923 as a partnership between Claude Bennett and Stacy Williams to manufacture and distribute "Yellow Label Table Syrup". The successful company soon constructed the Stacy Williams Co. building, combining its headquarters offices, manufacturing plant and distribution warehouse at 10 14th Street South.
Over the next decades it added cigarettes, tobacco and candy to its distribution business, serving national clients like A & P and K-Mart. The company sold its flagship syrup brand to Alaga Whitfield in 1975 and expanded its product line to include snack foods, health and beauty products, and sporting goods.
In 1994 the company was acquired by W. L. Petrey Wholesale of Luverne, Crenshaw County, and its warehouse and offices were relocated to 201 Princeton Parkway. It added a "Lockdown" division which supplies and operates commissaries at prisons and detention centers.
