Homewood HS band
"November 19, 1988: Homewood High School's band performed at the start of the race." We did? I don't remember that. (Not saying it didn't happen.) I'll have to dig out my 1988 calendar, although I probably didn't write it down. --Lkseitz 11:37, 28 August 2007 (PDT)

- I looked at my calendar from 1988. It's not on there, but two weeks before we were hosting the South Central Marching Classic at Waldrop Stadium. Two weeks later we were marching in Macy's Christmas Parade in Atlanta. (I do remember the parade. We spent the whole time looking up at the Donald Duck balloon's butt.) Both of these events are mentioned in a December 1988 school newspaper article about the band, but not the Vulcan Run. Furthermore, it's unlikely – but not out of the question, I admit – Pat Morrow, our director, would have scheduled two appearances so close together. I think perhaps the Vulcan Run people got a date confused. Still, I've sent a message to my fellow classmates in case they remember it. --Lkseitz 18:34, 28 August 2007 (PDT)

- But it's all for naught, as my memory proves to be very faulty. I sent a message to the Vulcan Run folks asking about it. They responded with a PDF of a page from the post-race program clearly showing the HHS band. It shows what looks like the correct drum major for that time and I don't see anyone from before the class of '89. I guess after 20 years and doing Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York, the Constitutional Bicentennial Parade in Philadelphia, one or two Macy's Christmas Parades in Atlanta, and George H. W. Bush's inauguration, something like the Vulcan Run gets pushed aside in one's memory. (Yet I still remember the band playing for the World Trampoline Championship in B'ham.) - Okay, this is just getting confusing. None of my classmates remember it. Someone called the band directory and he says we didn't do it. But the Vulcan Run people sent me this scan of a photo in the program. Well, for the moment I'm going to trust our collective memory and believe the Vulcan Run is somehow in error.
