The Theodore

The Theodore was an event venue located in the former Swann & Co. research laboratories at 3205–3211 2nd Avenue South.

The building was purchased by Ken and Cindy Rhoden in 2017 and remodeled as an event space, which they dubbed "The Theodore", for Swann & Co. founder Theodore Swann. Renovation of the historic building, erected in 1929, was supported with Alabama Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits.

The venue opened in January 2019 with Isam Culver as general manager. The facility had a seating capacity of 470 for banquets, 500 for meetings, or 750 for standing events.

Due to the loss of business from the public health social distancing orders during the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic, the venue announced in June that it would not reopen.
