The United Methodist Center is the headquarters office of the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church. It is located on the campus of Birmingham-Southern College with an address at 898 Arkadelphia Road. It was constructed in 2005 for $4,817,420.25, of which up to $2.5 million was made available through an internal loan from the conference.
In addition to the conference staff, the United Methodist Center houses the offices of the episcopal leader of the North Alabama Conference, who is also Resident Bishop of the Birmingham Episcopal Area of the Southeastern Jurisdiction. The building also houses the offices of three of the eight districts under the conference: the Central District, South Central District, and Cheaha District.
During its first year, Birmingham-Southern's chapter of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship held a 48-hour prayer session at the Center.
Within a few years of its opening, the center reduced its operating budget by shifting to a 4-day work week and assigning some staff members to work remotely from member church offices. The savings helped the center to more quickly pay off its internal debts for the project.
