The Fairfield Board of Education is the body which oversees the Fairfield City Schools System. Its five members are appointed to staggered five-year terms by the Fairfield City Council. All appointees are required to reside within the City of Fairfield and cannot be a member of the Council or anyone subject to the board's authority, such as a school employee.
The board holds its regular public meetings on the 3rd Thursday of each month in the Gladys T. Coleman Boardroom at the system's offices at 6405 Avenue D Fairfield. It also holds an annual public meeting each May to elect a president and vice-president. Fairfield's Superintendent of Schools serves as chief executive officer and as secretary of the board.
Its present policy manual was adopted in October 2017.
