Christopher Tyler Burks

Christopher Tyler Burks (also known as Chris Burks; born May 17, 1987 in Chattanooga, Tennessee) is an urban policy scholar, professor, and consultant in Birmingham. Burks is a visiting professor of political science at Samford University. Burks serves as president of the Alabama Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and as vice president of the Five Points South neighborhood. He also serves on the Young Alumni Council of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

Burks is the founder of Urban Analysis, a management consulting firm in Birmingham. He worked as a consultant and public policy analyst for Birmingham City Councilor Darrell O'Quinn on several transportation projects from 2018-2019 such as writing the request for proposals (RFP) for the public ridesharing service Birmingham On-Demand.

Burks is completing a PhD in public administration and policy at American University in Washington, D.C. Previously, he graduated from UAB with a Master of Public Administration (MPA) in 2018, and from Florida College with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 2009. Burks grew up in Homewood, graduating from Homewood High School in 2005.

Burks is active in civic engagement. In addition to his current roles, he previously served on the board of directors for the UAB MPA Alumni Society from 2018-2020 and on the MPA Advisory Board supporting reaccreditation with the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) in 2021. Burks advised City Councilor Darrell O'Quinn on the City Center Master Plan Steering Committee, and he served on the Southside Community Framework Plan Implementation Committee in 2019. Burks served on Mayor Randall Woodfin's Transition Team on Transparency & Effective Government in 2018, and on Mayor William Bell's Task Force on Preserving Dynamic & Diverse Neighborhoods in 2017. Burks is a member of the YMBC Civic Forum, Birmingham Historical Society, Alabama Rivers Alliance, Alabama Arise, and the Alabama Chapter of the Urban Land Institute (ULI).

Burks has lived in the Five Points South neighborhood since 2013 with his wife Dr. Elizabeth Baker.
