This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 2020. It includes homicide cases occurring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that a "homicide" refers to the cause of death as determined by a medical examiner, not to the commission of the crime of murder as charged by police and prosecutors.

4 homicides have been reported in the city as of January 13, putting the city on pace for 112 for the year. Based on the 2018 census estimate of 209,880 population, that represents a homicide rate of 53.4 homicides per 100,000 residents. Birmingham had 110 homicides in 2019. The recent record low of 62 homicides was set in 2014, and the recent record high was 141 in 1992. At this point last year, 4 homicides had been reported.

The city has averaged 9.5 homicides per month, or one every 3.3 days. There were 4 incidents so far in January. The longest stretch without a homicide was the 8-day span between December 28 and January 5. 1 death was reported on a Sunday, 2 on Monday, 0 on Tuesdays, 1 on a Wednesday, 0 on Thursdays, 0 on Fridays, and 0 on Saturdays.

The police department acknowledges 4 chargeable homicides. Suspects have been identified in 1 case, arrested in none and charged in none.

At least 4 deaths resulted from shootings, 0 from stabbing, 0 from automobile collisions, and 0 from bodily assault. 1 incident occurred at a private home, one at a private club, and 1 on the streets. 0 were reported in the West Precinct, 4 in the East Precinct, 0 in the South Precinct and 0 in the North Precinct.

One death resulted from a planned ambush and two occurred following sudden disputes. The motive is unknown in 1 other death.

3 victims were male and 1 was female.

  2. January 6: Douglas Paige, 34, was shot to death in a car following an altercation on the 4400 block of 9th Avenue North in Kingston. Persons of interest have been identified, but no arrests have been made. (report)
  3. January 8: Tristian Jackson, 36, a U.S. Army sergeant, was shot to death in an apparent ambush at the home of a relative on the 300 block of Killough Springs Road in Killough Springs. No arrest. (report)
  4. January 13: David Franklin Lee Jr, 37, was shot to death during an altercation at the Showstoppers Motorcycle Club at 901 Coosa Street. No arrest. (report)
