55th Place Arts is an arts incubator project developed by Main Street Birmingham on 55th Place South in Woodlawn. The project incorporates five small buildings with several individual store fronts painted in bright colors with black awnings. The design was produced by Cohen Carnaggio Reynolds architects and completed for $350,000, generated from public and private sources.
The incubator's first new tenant was City Arts Boutique, opened by Brooke Fleming in December 2011. Existing retail tenants include It's Linda's Beauty Salon, MoHair Designs and Salon 728.
