1907 train accident

The 1907 train accident was a collision between a Frisco switch engine and a North Highland streetcar at 19th Street and 9th Avenue North on the afternoon of June 18, 1907. James Bailey, the electric streetcar's inexperienced motorman, failed to respond to a danger flag and entered the crossing just ahead of the switching engine.

Casualties

Ten people were injured in the accident:

• Miss Charles F. Tye, badly bruised on arms and knee
• Mrs W. F. Martin, slight injury
• J. L. Kates, police officer, sprained arm and hand
• Mrs Mary Kerram, serious back sprain
• C. C. Snyder, slight injuries
• Dock Marshall, bruised about body
• Hattie Joyner (colored), shoulder and side sprains
• Docie Higgins (colored), shoulder bruised
• Mary Reese (colored), hand and arm sprained
• James Bailey, motorman, hand and arm sprains
