Alabama's men's basketball program has been overshadowed for most of its history by football.  However the program has enjoyed years of success, especially under former coaches [[Wimp Sanderson]] and [[Mark Gottfried]]. The men's program attained a national number 1 ranking during the [[2002]] season and reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament once, in [[2004]].
