The Bama Cardinals were a big band created in 1925 by a then-teenaged Joe Giattina. The group played a weekly live show each Sunday evening at 9:00 on WBRC-AM from 1925 to 1931. Giattina relocated to Pensacola, Florida's Casino Club that year and the band dissolved.
The Bama Cardinals were re-formed in 1978 when a retired Giattina took over a volunteer Shriner band and began playing as Joe Giattina and his Bama Cardinals, which became the Joe Giattina Orchestra after he handed over the baton on New Year's Eve, 1992.
