The Birmingham Industrial Development Board (formally the Industrial Development Board of the City of Birmingham) is an independent board which promotes industrial expansion in Birmingham by issuing bonds and granting tax abatement incentives in support of industrial development projects.
As a municipal "Industrial Development Board", its authority is laid out in Chapter 9B, Title 40, Code of Alabama 1975 and the Tax Incentive Reform Act of 1992.
The board was created in 1964. Its members are appointed by the Birmingham City Council, on the recommendation of its Economic Development, Budget & Finance Committee, to staggered 6-year terms.
