Box Row is a proposed multi-tenant retail and office development for the site of the Star Motel at 4121 3rd Avenue South in Avondale.

The $4.3 million project was proposed by Robert Ferrara of Blue Oak Development. The 3-level, 14,440 square foot building would be constructed principally of repurposed shipping containers. It would have space for 12 office tenants and as many as 39 retail shops, some of which could be combined or adapted for food service.

Operation of the complex is to be modeled after the Box Park shops in London, England. Basic leasing rates were to range from $800/month for small boxes to $1,200/month for larger boxes with kitchens. The original architect for Box Row was Design Initiative, with Kyle Tyree of Locke General Contractors as general contractor. The project was scheduled for opening in Fall 2016.

In Spring 2016 Golden Bell Capital took over the development of the stalled project. They hired Richard Carnaggio to tweak the architectural design and planned to break ground on demolition of the motel and an adjacent house by the end of May. Golden Bell pledged to honor the letters of intent signed by prospective tenants.
