The Crestwood community lies on either side of Crestwood Boulevard (U.S. 78) in eastern Birmingham. It is divided by the boulevard into the neighborhoods of Crestwood North and Crestwood South.

While most of Crestwood was developed in the 1950s, the former "Woodlawn Heights" area of Crestwood North dates to the 1910s.

Crestwood Park and the Crestwood Plaza shopping center are at the center of the community.
