"Cristoforo Columbo" is a 12-foot marble sculpture of Italian explorer Christopher Columbus by artist Ugo Sordelli. It was commissioned in 1990 and installed at the UAB Smolian International House at 16th Street and 10th Avenue South on Columbus Day, October 12, 1992. The installation was sponsored by the Robert J. Oliver, Sr Council 635 of the Knights of Columbus along with the Sons of Italy and members of Birmingham's Italian community, including Joseph Bruno and other members of the Bruno family.
