Gumby

Gumby (born c. 2012) is a blue-winged kookaburra (Dacelo leachii), a type of kingfisher native to Australia, that is used as a program animal at the Birmingham Zoo as part of their Schaeffer Eye Center Wildlife Show.

On April 28, 2015, zoo officials reported that Gumby had gotten "spooked" during a training session and flew away from the zoo. He was found three days later by a landscaper in Homewood. Zoo staffers responded and lured him to them by calling. He was turned over to Stephanie McCain, the zoo veterinarian, for observation, but appeared to be healthy.
