The restaurant was originally scheduled to open for New Year's 2007, but construction problems in the 90-plus-year-old building caused delays. Opening is currently scheduled for late February 2007.  During construction, Slate and Dobbs have provide catering and room service to the Tutwiler, which Icon will continue to do once it opens.

The Icon Restaurant and Bar is a planned white-tablecloth restaurant to be located inside the remodeled Tutwiler Hotel. It will be operated by chef Geoffrey Slate and manager Alan Dobbs, formerly of Restaurant G.

The restaurant was originally scheduled to open for New Year's 2007, but complications arising from existing condistions in the historic building caused delays. During construction, Slate and Dobbs provided catering and room service to the Tutwiler from off-site. The completed restaurant began serving meals on March 30.
