Inverness is a residential, office and retail development constructed in the 1970s on 1,500 acres of land adjacent to U. S. Highway 280 between Valleydale Road and the Cahaba River. The Inverness Country Club, with an 18-hole golf course, opened in 1973. The residential development, consisting initially of apartments, condominiums, townhomes and detached houses, was marketed by Barbara Lord and Associates.
