The Iron Ore Seam signs were metal signs donated by Erskine Ramsey to highlight the exposed Red Mountain iron ore seam visible where Montgomery Highway crosses Lone Pine Gap below Vulcan Park.

The signs were installed on November 8, 1949. The cast white-enameled signs have a black border and raised black letters reading "THIS RED MOUNTAIN IRON ORE IS BASIS OF BIRMINGHAM'S IRON-STEEL INDUSTRY" with "DONATED BY: ERSKINE RAMSAY, 1949" in smaller print at the bottom.

The descriptive sign was accompanied by two tags mounted parallel with the rock layers indicating the "TOP OF SEAM" and "BOTTOM OF SEAM".
