Jim McElwain (born March 1, 1962 in Missoula, Montana) is the head football coach at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. From 2008 to 2011 he was offensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.

McElwain graduated from Sentinal High School in Missoula and played quarterback at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington, earning a degree in education in 1983. He remained at EWU as a graduate assistant and was promoted to quarterbacks and receivers coach under head coach Dick Zornes. He left to coach at Montana State, and then coached at the University of Louisville and followed his head coach, John L. Smith, to Michigan State University before spending a year as quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders.

In 2007 McElwain became the offensive coordinator for Fresno State University. A year later he was offered the Alabama job by head coach Nick Saban. In 2011 he accepted an offer to coach the Colorado State Rams, finishing his Alabama career in the 2011 BCS National Championship game.

McElwain and his wife, Karen, have three children.
