Lake Logan Martin is a 15,263-acre reservior of the Coosa River bordered by St Clair and Talladega Counties. It was created by Alabama Power's construction of the Logan Martin Dam, a hydroelectric dam completed in 1964. Both the lake and the dam were named after William Logan Martin, Jr, a circuit court judge in Montgomery who also served as general counsel for Alabama Power and as Alabama Attorney General. The impounded area is approximately 48.5 miles long, bounded by Neely Henry Dam upstream to the north near Ohatchee. The deepest portion of the lake is about 110 feet.
Lake Logan Martin provides Alabama Power with an annual generating capacity of 128,250 Kilowatts. It is used as a recreational lake with fishing opportunities for largemouth bass, spotted bass, bluegill and other sunfish, crappie, catfish, striped bass, hybrid and white bass. Though most of the lake's 273 miles of shoreline is privately owned, Alabama Power maintains three public access sites.
