Robert E. Lee Elementary School was an elementary school in the Birmingham City Schools system located at 630 18th Street Southwest in the Oakwood Place neighborhood of West End. It was built in 1925 adjacent to West End High School, with some additions 3 years later. It was named for former Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
A gymnasium and four classrooms were added to the school in 1950.
Under the school consolidation plan proposed by acting superintendent Barbara Allen and approved by the Board, Lee Elementary closed in the Summer of 2011. Students were joined by classmates from the former Price Elementary School and Powderly Elementary School in the new West End Academy at the West End High School site. [1]
