Levi Reid or Levi Reed was an early settler in the Locust Fork area and the first Jefferson County Sheriff.
Reid's family entered Alabama with a group led by John Wood which settled at Wood's Station before spreading out across the area.
Reid was sworn in as Sheriff on October 28, 1819, about 8 months after the Alabama territory was ceded to the United States and a little over a month before Jefferson County was officially split from Blount County. He served through October 5, 1822.
On December 23, 1819, while serving as Sheriff, Reid married the former Eleanor Rusher (or Rausher). They had six children: Serene, Caroline, Reuben, Elizabeth, William and Henry.
In the late 1820s, Reid and James Grindle were the first to bring Warrior coal to Mobile on flatboats.
