- Fred Blackmon was beaten, killed and dumped in the Coosa River in the trunk of his Cadillac. He and his wife, Evelyn, had given $5,000 to two men who claimed to have abducted their daughter. William Glenn Boyd was convicted of murder and sentenced to death.
