Rendering of the proposed shopping center

The Montgomery Highway Shoppers Park was an unbuilt proposal for a 170,000 square foot shopping center at the intersection of Montgomery Highway (U. S. Highway 31) and Columbiana Road in unincorporated Jefferson County between Hoover and Vestavia Hills.

The planned $2.5 million project would have had shops surrounding a central 600-car parking area on a 16-acre site. Developer J. Levert Andrews was planning to recruit a department store, furniture store, variety store, shoe stores, jewelry store, hardware store, drug store, supermarket, dress shop, barber shop, antique dealer, children's shop, beauty salon and auto service station, as well as a restaurant and ice skating rink.

The site later became part of the right-of-way for I-65.
