The North Birmingham community is one of 23 "Communities" in Birmingham's "Community Participation Program". It is centered around the former municipality of North Birmingham north of Village Creek, and includes the neighborhoods of Acipco-Finley, Collegeville, Fairmont, Harriman Park, Hooper City, and the North Birmingham neighborhood.

The North Birmingham community adopted a "Framework Plan" as part of the Birmingham Comprehensive Plan process in March 2015.
