Oak Mountain State Park

Oak Mountain State Park is the largest park in Alabama and is located 15 miles from downtown Birmingham. The park is part of the Alabama State Parks system which is run by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Geologically the park encompasses Double Oak Mountain, one of the first foothills of the Appalachian range which gives rise to the majestic Smoky Mountains.

Oak Mountain covers 9,940 acres and provides hiking, camping, golf, waterfalls, swimming, a BMX track, a demonstration farm, horseback riding, mountain biking, and fishing among other attractions. The park also houses the Alabama Wildlife Center and Treetop Nature Trail. The center is responsible for the rehabilitation of over 2,000 injured and orphaned wild animals each year.
